For men, Madison Avenue is a great place to start. Its selection of menswear purveyors is unparalleled. Stop by any of the following and you’re bound to leave feeling spruced up, no matter how small or large your purchase: Charles Tyrwhitt, Paul Stuart, Sayki, Tommy Bahama…the list goes on and on.

Apple (Grand Central Terminal, East Balcony – 212-284-1800) offers a full daily schedule of free classes that aim to help you get the most from their hardware (iPhone, iPod, MacBook, etc.). Berkeley College (3 East 43rd Street at Fifth Avenue – 212-986-4343) offers a wide variety of classes available to fit your schedule, including day, evening, weekend, and online offerings.
Instituto Cervantes (211 East 49th Street between Second and Third Avenues – 212-308-7720) is a not-for-profit organization created by the Spanish government in 1991. Its mission is to promote the teaching of Spanish and to contribute to the advancement of the culture of the Spanish speaking countries.
Devoted exclusively to the business of fashion, LIM College (Campus buildings include: 12 East 53rd Street; 545 Fifth Avenue at 45th Street; 216 East 45th Street; and 226 East 54th Street – 212-752-1530) offers a unique combination of strong academics and extensive hands-on experience to prepare you for a successful future. The New York Public Library’s Science, Industry and Business Library (part of the new Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library, 455 Fifth Avenue, at 40th Street – 212-340-0863) offers a variety of classes geared towards small business owners and entrepreneurs that are a great resource to anyone beginning a business or running one with limited resources and personnel. The New York Public Library System is also a wonderful resource for all types of learning.
Scandinavia House (58 Park Avenue at 38th Street – 212-779-3587) is home to The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) and offers a wide range of programs that include art, design, and historical exhibitions as well as films, concerts, readings, lectures, symposia, language courses and children’s programming that illustrate and illuminate the modern-day vitality of the Nordic countries.
GIVE BACK
Breaking Ground, the Grand Central Neighborhood Social Services Corporation (GCNSSC) and Urban Pathways all provide services to the homeless in and around Midtown and around the city. Learn more about how you can support their missions here, here and here.
